Cozy Modern Cottage Family Room
When I had a chance to decorate the family room, we began with a color scheme. It was decided that teal/blue, brown, yellow, and white would be the main colors to circle around. I typically work within a budget and figure out how to stretch money to the max. Finding things on clearance or being willing to paint items to fit in with your decor are important to accomplishing this task. I also tend to move things around or place things in different rooms to get a whole new feel. Below I will describe where I found the items and how I made them fit in.
Mantle: Target clearance vase with stems from Michael's, clearanced Michael's white and striped frames (both missing glass so marked down to $5 each), Target teal frame, Homegoods candle stands, candles, and mirror. The family name was ordered through Etsy.
Couches are Pottery Barn, Ottoman was from a local furniture store as part of a set (set is in the living room), pillows are from Ikea and Target, rug from Amazon (I took a chance and it is awesome!), curtains from pottery barn.
These are all handmade decorations other than the white and yellow frames. Yellow frame was clearance at Bed Bath and Beyond, everything else is from Michael's. The shadow frame was painted yellow, the inner frame painted blue, and the love was bought white. The W was bought white and glued on a painted yellow wood flower. Both canvases were bought clearanced with designs that would not work with this room. The quote was made by placing scrapbooking letters directly on the canvas and painting over it all with blue. Once it dried, the letters were carefully pealed off and the burlap flower was added. The Dream canvas was made by modpodging scrapbook paper on a canvas and adding a painted wood dream word directly on the canvas.
